Money Saving Tips

by Catherine, 11th July 2010

I have been spending this week collecting up some money saving hints and tips to share with you all, some you may have heard before and some will be rather quirky, but all can help save a few pounds each week and that’s really what counts right?

I have received tons of suggestions of various things to do with old newspapers, such as using them when cleaning the windows as it makes them shine more (also the advice about adding a little vinegar to the water works wonders, I tried it). It works better than some household cleaning products and works out much cheaper. Using items already in the house as opposed to going out and buying extra products can save a massive amount of money over the course of the year.

Those with wood burners in the home may find that using rolled and twisted newspaper works better and is of course cheaper than firelighters. Just roll them, twist them in a loose knot and lay them under the logs, they light straight away, no messing!

Old newspaper is ideal for those with pets. They can be put down when toilet training a puppy or for those with cats, they can be shredded and used in the litter tray in place of cat litter. This saves money and is environmentally friendly, but downside is the litter tray will need cleaning more often. Of course for those who would rather buy their pet supplies can still save money by shopping online with Pets at Home. They are offering free delivery on orders over £29.00. The offer is ongoing so the savvy shopper could be saving money for a while and having their goods delivered directly to the door.
