Men’s Style Tips

by Craig, 18th June 2012

Nobody said it was going to be easy to be a stylish man. It takes time to develop grace and flair; an understanding of what works when, and a style which is totally comfortable for and individual to you. A lot of men tend to opt for pieces of clothing that they either rely on or [worse still] have heard are the ‘height of cool’ that particular season. This is a fatal error if the building blocks of your wardrobe were not built on sturdy foundations- otherwise known as ‘lifetime pieces’.

Here, we list five of our top fundamental items with think every man should keep close at hand. Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below or getting in touch via our Twitter and Facebook pages.

1)      Dark Jeans: The perfect staple for any man’s wardrobe, dark jeans can be worn almost anywhere. They can be worn to a restaurant or meeting, but equally never look overly smart and so work well in more casual situations. There are many classic brands and styles, but whichever you pick, just be sure to never pick a pair which are either too baggy or too skinny – because whatever the style magazine might tell you – nothing works better than a classic fit.

 2)      The brown leather jacket: A rugged and indispensable item of clothing in any man’s wardrobe, the leather jacket has done the average man a lot of favours over the years.  A timeless classic in our opinion, just be sure, when picking your jacket that it fits glove. Good leather stretches and wears remarkably well, meaning it will look just as cool in fifty years as it does today.  You can pick a good leather jacket up from countless places these days, and if you’re on a budget we recommend you set a day aside for wading through vintage shops. Alternatively very few designers do a better jacket than our personal pick, Dolce and Gabbana.

 3)      Brogue Shoes: Irrefutably the most important part of a man’s wardrobe, great shoes are the making of any man, and no shoe comes more highly recommended than the faithful brogue.  These shoes look great in both black or brown and can worn with practically anything, not to mention, with a little wear and tear they often look even better than when you bought them brand new – how many items of clothing do you know that do that?

4)      Watch: These days people are used to checking the time with their mobile phones, but when you have a classic rock on your wrist, nothing better reflects your personality and own sense of style. A statement piece, remember that watches are worth the investment. Quality and comfort are the two most important factors here, and picking the right watch for you is something very personal. A majority of males tend to opt for the uber masculine metal linked variety, however we much prefer leather, or if you’re feeling casual then grosgrain watches are most definitely worth a look too.

5)      Slim Black Belt: Nothing is quite as subtle but effective as the classic black belt. Every man should own one, if not two, but just be sure to always match your belt and shoes. Never, ever, mismatch – black belt, belt shoes – brown shoes, brown belt – that’s our only rule, so don’t you forget it!
